It’s the first photo gallery of 2013! Sorry for being late.
We spent some time mid afternoon on the first day of the new year hoping to see a single bird, the short-eared owl. We were ecstatic to find not just one, but five total on the day! One in particular glided closer to us than the others, offering a fairly close look (with binoculars).
We didn’t see many other species, just a few northern harriers, savannah sparrows, and a flock of common redpolls. I’m still searching for my first snow bunting, but maybe one day I’ll see one.
