04/30/11 – Cary Institute Hike

Common Grackle

The second location I stopped at was Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies, specifically Fern Glen and the Bacon Flats.

At Fern Glen, I mainly took scenery shots because there wasn’t much wildlife to see this time around.  There was an eastern painted turtle on the pond, and I heard a chipping sparrow singing in a tree, but not much else.

Then, I went to the flats to do a quick hike around the loop.  Its a paved, road that can be driven on, but I much prefer walking the loop instead.  I’ve had good sightings here in the past, but this afternoon, there wasn’t much that I didn’t already see at Buttercup Farm.  It was still a nice day, and I took scenery photos on the flats as well.  Photos will be posted in a few days! 🙂
