It was a short hike through the community gardens and the area before the gate to the fields, but there was still enough to satisfy. One thing that stood out were the cicada killer wasps.
These large wasps, as the name suggests, kill cicadas, which they feed to their young. They burrow into the ground, but typically make what looks like a large anthill. I managed to get two photos, including one carrying a cicada, which have been included in this gallery. For more about cicada killers, wikipedia has a good entry on them.
