New Butterfly Photographed – American Snout

American Snout

If you would have told me I’d still be finding new species of butterflies to photograph into October, I wouldn’t have believed it.

At Vassar Farm on Saturday, near the back ponds, we spotted this little butterfly.  I wasn’t sure what it was at first until I zoomed in and saw the long snout extending from its head.  I figured it might be an American Snout, which I later confirmed at home.  If this is how my 2011 butterfly season will end, at least it ended on a high note!
