New Bird Photographed – Snow Goose

Snow Goose

As if the merlin wasn’t exciting enough at Vassar Farm on Saturday!

While photographing that merlin, I heard a strange goose-like honk overhead.  I was hesitant to pry my eyes away from the new raptor, but by the time I looked up, I saw a lone goose flying behind the trees at the front pond.  I thought I missed my chance at whatever it was.  I continued to watch him through the trees, and suddenly, he turned back my way!

Once he cleared the trees, I fired away with my camera.  Within seconds, he was gone from view, and I captured photos of the goose.  It definitely wasn’t your normal goose, but a snow goose!  This is the 128th bird I’ve photographed in Dutchess County & the second new bird of 2012!

You are OUTSTANDING in your field!!!

  2. One time a friend and I were coming down Rte. 82 and there was a whole field of migrating snow geese feeding on the corn left from harvesting. Unfortunately, I did not have a zoom lens on my old camera, so didn’t get good pictures–there were hundreds of the geese.

That’s a very good picture of a snow goose in flight!
