First Warbler of the Season!

Palm Warbler

Ladies and gentlemen, this is the type of bird I wait all year for… the warbler.  With their beautiful array of colors and songs, these are the prize of spring.  Many will migrate through, while others will stay for the summer.

While at Vassar Farm on Friday, I found several palm warblers throughout the preserve, my first sighting of the season. One was at the front pond area and another three at the back pond area.

The photograph is from the back pond area.  This is only the beginning, as many more species of warblers will be making their way through Dutchess County.  While I have already photographed around 20 species of warbler in the area over the last few years, several species have escaped my persistence.  Here’s hoping 2012 will be kind to me!
