What a Difference One Year Makes…

Black-and-white Warbler (photo from 2011)

In May 2011, I got my first glimpse of a black-and-white warbler.  My wife spotted it during an evening hike at Peach Hill Park and I was only able to get a couple of blurry photos.

This was the least blurry, and it would be the only time I saw one for the entire year.  I made it one of my personal goals to get a better shot in 2012 to showcase this gorgeous little warbler.

Fast forward to this year.

Last weekend during a bird watching hike with the Waterman Bird Club, I caught my first of season glimpse of the species, but it got away from me.  What a challenging bird to photograph!  It’s a good thing I’m persistent.

Today (4/28) was a different story, as I heard several of them throughout Peach Hill.  My first real photo opportunity of a black-and-white warbler came two hours into my hike, and I made the most of it.  It took nearly a year of waiting, but I now have a photo I can be really happy with:
