Well, that was unexpected!
With warblers in nearly every tree at Peach Hill Park, I was completely caught off guard when this sparrow popped out from a nearby bush. At first glance, I thought it was a chipping sparrow because of his rufous crown. It wasn’t until I looked through my camera when I realized I was wrong.
At first, I didn’t know what type of sparrow it was, other than one I hadn’t seen before. Sparrows aren’t really my strength, so I went home to review my books. After several minutes, I was able to ID it as a swamp sparrow. This is the 133th bird photographed in Dutchess County now!
