This is one of the more common poses I get from birds while I am out. Many times, I don’t see them while I’m hiking until its too late, at which point they begin to move away in a hurry. For example, look at this bird.
While I was walking around the pond at the garden, this little bird began to hop away right next to the trail. My only hope to salvage this moment was for him to turn and look back. I stood perfectly still anxiously waiting to see its next move. Before you read on, do you have any idea what bird it is?
Let’s just say I was in for a surprise when he looked back…
It was a beautiful yellow-throated vireo, a bird I’ve only seen and photographed just once before! I couldn’t believe my luck! If only they all did this!
