Non-breeding Wood Ducks

Wood Ducks (non-breeding males)

Wood ducks are a tough bird to photograph.  During breeding season, they are incredibly skittish, earning them the ‘nemesis’ title in my book.  When they are not breeding, they are much easier to photograph.  Males aren’t nearly as beautiful as they are in breeding plumage, but I’ll take whatever I can get. :)

At Vassar Farm on Friday the 13th, I encountered a fairly large flock of wood ducks at the back pond area.  There were several non-breeding males and also a few ducklings as well.
