On a day that was largely dominated by showers and thunderstorms in Dutchess County, I decided to head across the Hudson River to the Shawangunk Grasslands. This large refuge is home to several interesting species, such as the short-eared owls, bobolinks, and meadowlarks.
There was a substantial restoration project that was recently completed this year, so I was curious and eager to see the changes. I was elated to find that there is a beautiful mowed trail that cuts through this unique area. Prior to this, the only walking areas were old airstrips from an old military airport. I can’t wait to go back and check this place out in the spring!
For now, I took some photos of the surrounding area. Enjoy!
