Wildlife in the Dominican Republic – Palmchat

The palmchat is the national bird of the Dominican Republic, and the only place in the world that they can be found is on the island of Hispaniola.

They were quite numerous wherever we went at the resort, but finding one low enough to photograph proved to once again, be a challenge.  With mostly tall palms within the resort, I had to look elsewhere to get my shots.

Just outside the entrance of the resort, I found a gigantic nest that someone told me was a palmchat nest.  I also found out that they are community nesters, so multiple pairs will use it.  This became a great spot to photograph them.
