Wildlife in the Dominican Republic – White-crowned Pigeon

White-crowned Pigeon

White-crowned Pigeon

A few mornings while looking for wildlife, I saw this somewhat large pigeon from afar.  When I say large, it looked to be over a foot long from beak to tail.

It never let me get even remotely close, but my camera allowed me to at least identify the species – a white-crowned pigeon.

They can be found on the island of Hispaniola, as well as other surrounding islands.  I was glad to spot one during my time in the DR.
