On the first day of 2014, we decided to head to Vassar Farm for an early year hike. Snow is the forecast, so I figured we should get out while we can!
Not too far into our hike, my wife spotted something in a tree. Suddenly, she let out a quiet gasp, which I immediately took notice to. She uttered the words, ‘horned owl’. I then located and confirmed her sighting.
It was our first adult Great Horned Owl in the wild, and it was the first owl my wife has ever spotted herself. Typically I find them first, so she was quite ecstatic.
If the very first day of the year is any indication, it looks like we’re in for an interesting 2014.
