Capturing the Gray Ghost

Northern Harrier

Northern Harrier

Last weekend, we stopped at the Shawangunk Grasslands in hopes to catch a glimpse and some photos of some short-eared owls.  Long story short, we didn’t see any… but we were treated to quite the show with Northern Harriers.

We managed to secure one of the two blinds on the property for the best chance at close up shots.  The spot must have been prime hunting grounds for the harriers, as we were soon surrounded.  We even had a male harrier, nicknamed the gray ghost (pictured)!  It was the first time being so close, and I managed to make the best of it on an overcast day.

I have more shots to share in the attached gallery.
